The message to each group mentioned in the text is particular to the temptations with which they struggle. It reminds us of the benefits of focus particular to needs. One of the most fascinating tools created in the twentieth century was the famous Swiss Army knife. This knife, specifically designed for the use of soldiers in the field, became immensely popular with American GI's returning home from European service in World War II. Initially developed as a multi-purpose knife by Karl Elsener in 1891 as the "Offizermesser," the design continued to be adapted and improved for service in the field. It was the first knife to incorporate the use of what is now called stainless steel. The aim of the design was to provide a maximum of utility with a minimum demand upon space and size. Since soldiers have to carry all of their belongings in their knapsack, compact tools specific to their needs proved very handy. The message of the gospel meets each of us in ways particular to our needs.
