The media mogul, Ted Turner...

The media mogul, Ted Turner, has called Christianity, "A religion for losers." We might be insulted by this definition. The church has also been called, "A hospital for sinners." Are we insulted by this definition? Probably not.
After all, as Christians we see with our eyes of faith that we are sinful and need God's perfect love and forgiveness. We see that we have "lost" the goodness with which God created our first Mother and Father in the Garden. So, maybe we are "losers" indeed. We come in fear to our perfectly loving God, for we are imperfectly loving images of God. We want to do better in doing God's will. And we ask in our prayers that the Holy Spirit guide us in delighting in God's will.
This fear and "doing right" is what God wants us to do with the faith he gives us. Saint Peter reminds us that "he will accept people of all nations who fear him and do what is right." God shows no favoritism to "winners" or "losers." God reveals to Saint Peter that everyone is welcome to this "hospital for sinners," to be healed by our Messiah "with the Holy Spirit and Power." We can be put again on the healthy road of faith -- even losers like you and me.
