Martin Luther, the great sixteenth century reformer, in his book The Bondage of the Will, describes how a person is like a horse to be ridden. The horse will have its rider. EITHER the "unholy trinity" (the Devil, the world, the sinful self) OR the Holy Trinity will hold the reigns. The Christian life is one that, by the grace of God, is constantly bucking off the "unholy trinity" and submitting to the horsemanship of God.
