Martha's labor pains had begun...
Illustration
Martha's labor pains had begun only an hour earlier. They were regular, twenty minutes apart. The doctor had told Martha and Tom to call her when the pains were five minutes apart. So, they were just enjoying their Saturday morning and savoring the anticipation of the birth of their first child. Suddenly, the pains were only two minutes apart and almost unbearable. Tom quickly called the doctor and helped Mary into the car. She wanted to be in the back seat where she could stretch out, so he covered her and hopped into the front seat for the trip to the hospital.
