Many months after the official end of World War II there was a group of Laplanders about 200 miles up the coast who still hadn't heard about the armistice. At that time of the year there is darkness almost 24 hours a day where they lived. The habits of their daily lives continued as if the war was still in full swing. They huddled together and lived in fear. They blacked out their little communities in order to protect themselves from air raids. This meant that they lived those months almost completely in darkness.
