Many foreigners, including Americans, were trapped in Kuwait when Iraq overran that country. About a month after the invasion, a Texan escaped to tell an amazing story.
When he heard that Iraq was arresting Americans and using them as "human shields" to protect sensitive targets against possible attack, he hid in the air conditioning ducts of his apartment. A Jordanian friend came regularly to visit him, bring food, and tell him the latest news.
When he saw an opening, that Jordanian colleague helped him escape the country. The Texan owed his life to that friend and he was quick to tell of his gratitude to anyone who would listen.
It seems that guardian angels still come in handy during dangerous times.
