Many denominations have undergone liturgical renewal in recent years. Although some people have found the changes hard to deal with, the experience has revitalized many churches. One of the more controversial "innovations" in some areas has been the exchange of the Peace, in which we greet each other with Jesus' own words. The Anglican Church of Canada's Book of Alternative Services describes the Peace as "an encounter, a reconciliation, and an anticipation." A handshake is the usual sign of exchange, although some hug or even kiss.
