We all reach peaks in our lives that bring great relief, a strong sense of accomplishment, and even a feeling of being ready for death. For some parents it is at the point a son or daughter graduates from high school or college. For others it is living to see the first grandchild. For a writer it could very well be the instant he or she learns the best-seller list has been reached. The examples can go on indefinitely, depending upon one's values and motivations in life.
An aged rabbi named Simeon was able to hold Jesus in his arms. The baby was the "consolation of Israel." Having seen first-hand the prophecy of the ages come to fruition, he was ready to pass the way of all flesh. His honor was the one surpassing all others ... or was it?
You and I know the birth, life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. Yes, and we can add to that hundreds of years of church history that have seen Christians lose battles but never the war.
