Love does no wrong to a neighbor. Obviously, it depends on who we think our neighbors really are. Napoleon Bonaparte clearly did not include non-French citizens on his list. Once, while watching the Russian city of Smolensk erupt in flames, he asked one of his generals if it wasn't a glorious sight. The officer replied, "Horrible, sire." Napoleon snorted, "Remember, gentlemen, as one of the Roman emperors once said, 'The corpse of an enemy always smells sweet.' "
