Lou Proctor referred to himself...
Illustration
Lou Proctor referred to himself as a baseball player, and the Baseball Encyclopedia carried his name. On page 1304 his name is included with everyone who played major league baseball. However, when the next edition goes to press, the name of Lou Proctor will be missing. Someone discovered that he was the press-box telegraph operator for the 1912 St. Louis Cardinals. He never was a baseball player, but he put his own name in the boxscore of a game, and thus gained entrance into the Baseball Encyclopedia.
