The mission of Isaiah's servant is the same as Christ's mission: a covenant to the people, a light to the nations for the purpose of opening blind eyes and bringing freedom to the imprisoned. Certainly later events reminded the Gospel writers of Isaiah's song. Blind Bartimaeus and Legion would both say that Isaiah had it right. D. T. Niles gives an interesting slant to the church's responsibility for making the light available to the nations:
