Literature and legend are full...
Illustration
Literature and legend are full of stories about kings and princes who adopted a disguise and circulated among their subjects in order to find out what life really was like. A good king might in this way discover the complaints and needs of his people. Then he could return to his throne and take actions to help them. The ancient Greeks believed that, in similar fashion, their gods and goddesses would assume human form and live among earthlings whenever they wished. Sometimes they helped the poor human beings, but sometimes they played pranks on them.
