Last winter our newspapers told us of a bizarre tale unfolding in Sioux City, Iowa. The teenage daughters of two families had been involved in a tragic traffic accident. One was dead, the other comatose. A funeral was held for the one, and vigil for the other. When the survivor came out of the coma, the parents who thought they had buried their dead child learned to their shock and delight that, in fact, their daughter had been the one to slip into a coma. By that time they had emotionally, psychologically, and in every other way conceivable "given up to death" their child.
