In Kathmandu, Nepal, I saw the "Living Goddess." She was not, as the title sounds, a beauty queen. On the contrary, she was a chubby little girl of seven, holding a doll. The Hindu belief in Nepal is that one of the gods becomes incarnate in a little girl who becomes the "Living Goddess" until puberty. Then she is retired, and another little girl takes her place.
