When Jesus says that the kingdom of God belongs to those who are like children, he is not suggesting that we all become childish. Rather, his call is for us to be childlike. Of all the childlike qualities, perhaps that of trust is most important to the would-be disciple. Neither cynical nor suspicious, the childlike person is able to place trust in authority. Our call is for childlike trust in God.
