Early in this century Dr. Frank Laubach began his career as an agricultural missionary on the island of Mindanao in the Philippines. After several years he went to Manila to establish Union Theological Seminary. But the primitive Moro Indians on Mindanao kept calling for him to help them. He went back to the island, believing that their desperate needs were somehow associated with their inability to read or write.
Frank Laubach developed a simplified method for learning to read in a few lessons. He also enlisted the students in the teaching process. When a group had learned the first lesson, he sent each one out to teach it to a friend. Both would then come back for the second lesson.
Over the years Frank Laubach's teaching ministry, called "Each One Teach One," has enabled millions of people around the world to read the Word. Like a modern Philip he responded to the cry for help, "How can I understand unless someone guides me?"
