Joseph was busy in his shop that day. The day was bright, but cold, and lent itself to cleaning up, arranging his new load of lumber, and sweeping up the curls and sawdust that he had swept into the corners while he was working on his latest commission. He liked these moments between customers, when he had the time to oil his tools, sharpen his saws and chisels, and put things in order. Joseph was an orderly man. Each tool had its own space behind the workbench, held in place by leather thongs, ready to his hand when he needed it.
