John MacQuarrie is one of the great theologians and lecturers of the twentieth century. Over the years the scholar has written dozens of books and thousands of articles. His discipline has been and continues to be that he writes at least four typed pages every day. With such a volume of material combined with the fact that he is now in his late seventies and makes less appearances than he used to, news that he will be at some event to speak is quite a draw. During the summer of 1998 at the Oxford University Summer School one such engagement was scheduled. Dr.
