Jim was in second grade...
Illustration
Jim was in second grade and he loved arithmetic. When he was in kindergarten he had learned his numbers faster than anyone else. He could count up to 100 when most of the children were still learning to count to ten. Jim just loved memorizing facts. It felt good to him. Facts stayed the same. He didn't have to worry about them doing anything to make him confused. After a while he found that he could memorize facts without really having to think about what he was doing at all. He liked that. But now things had changed. He had to learn how to solve problems.
