Jesus' words, ... and I, when...

Jesus' words, "... and I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself," speak of the magnetic power of the cross. Napoleon at St. Helena is reported to have said that Alexander, Caesar, and he had founded mighty empires upon force, and they had vanished; whereas Christ had built his upon love, and today millions would die for him. Gravity is another kind of magnetism. We little understand it but recognize that it is what holds the universe together. Planets are held in their orbits by the kind of attraction that is exerted upon them by other bodies. The moon exerts its power upon the ocean and thus we have high and low tides. Thus an unknown author wrote:
If our greatest need had been information, God would have sent an educator. If our greatest need had been technology, God would have sent a scientist. If our greatest need had been money, God would have sent us an economist. But since our greatest need was forgiveness, God sent us a Savior. -- Meddock
