Jesus tells the disciples that suffering, death, and resurrection will be a part of his life, and Peter says, "Never, Lord. This shall never happen to you." Yet, taking up a cross and dying to the old is necessary in order for the new to be born. A very famous musician was conducting a concert at a theater where there was a union rule that all the musicians could go home at midnight. The concert was running late, and they had several more pieces to play when midnight came. Much to the conductor's embarrassment, almost half the orchestra got up and walked out.
