Jesus asks his followers to...
Jesus asks his followers to incorporate him completely into their lives. The graphic nature of his language still shocks us. He is living bread. We must eat his flesh and drink his blood to find life. That sounds offensive, cannibalistic, almost obscene. But, have you ever said to a child, "I love you so much I could just eat you up"? There is more in Jesus' statement than mere symbolism. It is necessary for us to take Jesus into ourselves -- flesh of our flesh, blood of our blood -- in order to accomplish the total identification which is life in his Spirit.
