Jesse's mother always worked the night shift. That meant that his father would put him into bed for five nights of the week. Jesse and his father had their own special bedtime routine. First Jesse would have a snack. Then he'd get into his pajamas and come back downstairs, climb on his father's knee, and listen as his father told him a story of what it was like when he grew up. Then he and his father would walk back upstairs, and his father would tuck him into bed.
