Jerry is a traveling salesman...

Jerry is a traveling salesman. He covers the country several times each year, demonstrating his products, seeking retailers who will put his product on their shelves. Jerry never goes empty-handed. He always has a goodly supply of samples that he hands out to shopkeepers and their customers. A cell phone is considered indispensable to his work. It allows him to call ahead, check in with his home office, or call for a tow when his car breaks down. Jerry carries a laptop which allows him to stay connected via the internet, especially now that many hotels are "hotspots" for wireless access. And of course, there is the company credit card that allows Jerry to book his motel rooms, pay for his meals, and occasionally take a prospective customer out to lunch. No, Jerry does not go out without provisions.
Jesus, on the other hand, sent his disciples out with no provisions. They were to live on the generosity of those who heard the gospel they preached. I wonder if he would get any takers today.
