Jacob was a scoundrel, a rascal. Yet he was a man capable of deep religious experience. Here he has just deceived his father and cheated his brother and, in fear of Esau's anger, has guiltily run away. Still, God comes to him in this most unlikely of places. The ordinary becomes extraordinary due to Jacob's deep spiritual experience here. The same can be true for us as well.
