A. J. Gordon has raised an interesting hypothetical proposition. Suppose some unlearned, unimaginative individual, artistically inept, were to set down before Raphael's great painting of the Transfiguration and attempt to reproduce it. Try as he may, he would botch the job miserably. Colors would not blend, lines would be too bold, figures and articles would be noticeably out of proportion. Determination would only serve to prolong the futile exercise. Frustration would surely compound and, in all probability, eventually result in utter disgust.
