It was a bitterly cold Christmas Eve. The snow had continued to pile up since the middle of December. The thermometer steadily dropped.
"Thank goodness it's a holiday, and we don't have to get out in weather like this," Jennifer's mother announced.
The conversation that followed stayed on the weather. Jennifer wondered out loud, "How will the birds survive such cold?" Then turning to her mother, she said, "I wish we could invite the birds into our warm house. We could give them food and warmth, and they would survive this weather."
