It was afternoon on New Year's Day. All of the out-of-town relatives had left and other
family members were busy elsewhere in the house when Alan decided that it would be a
good time to begin putting away some of the Christmas decorations. Taking down the
Christmas tree is always a sobering experience for Alan. He carefully wrapped the star in
newspaper, and took down the lights, rolling them on empty paper towel rolls. Next he
tackled the ornaments that the family had been collecting from places they visited.
