It is the power and authority of God that enables us for godly living and all earthy achievement. Apart from God's energy within us, nothing we manage on our own will avail. The Danish king Canute, who ruled England at the turn of the first millennium, grew tired of the extravagant praises of his greatness, power, and invincibility. In a famous incident, he ordered his chair to be set down on the seashore, where he commanded the waves not to come in and dampen him. The incoming tide soon proved the futility of human commands.
