It is indeed a triumphant and glorious image here: Jesus has become a great high priest, after the order of Melchizedek. The splendid rank of this position would seem to make approaching this throne, in a search for grace somehow impossible. How could a fallible human approach such sinless perfection?
Marvelously the key is in these words, "For we have not a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weakness, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sinning." (v. 15)
