It has probably happened in...

It has probably happened in every family. In ours it happened with my paternal grandmother. She lay sick, at the point of death. But members of her family still important to her could not come. They knew her health was going. But schedules did not permit their taking time to cross the whole United States to see her. Of course, had she died, they could have come to see her dead, but while she lingered they could not get free to go.
And so she waited. The doctors said she should have died before. But she confounded all of them. And then, one weekend in July, the family all arrived to see her. She was thrilled. She greeted all of them affectionately. A week later she died.
Lord, now let your servant depart in peace.
