An Irish king was looking...
Illustration
An Irish king was looking for a successor who would love God and his fellow human
beings, and invited applications. An Irish peasant sold his few belongings, bought a new
suit, and began the long journey to the castle to submit his name. On the way, he passed a
hungry and cold beggar. The peasant gave him half his sandwich. When the beggar asked
for clothes, the peasant exchanged his new suit for the beggar's clothes. When the peasant
arrived at the castle and was ushered into the king's chambers, he looked up into the
king's face. It was the face of the beggar!
