The image of the text is of God as an "all-consuming fire." One of the most interesting phenomena in the universe is the "black hole." These are the endpoints of stars that have undergone a supernova explosion. Left behind is a stellar remnant that ultimately collapses on itself to a point of zero volume and infinite density, creating what is known as a "singularity." As the density increases even the emitted light rays are bent and wrapped around the star so that even emitted protons are trapped in its gravitational field. Since no light escapes, it is thus deemed a "black hole." While it does not quite become the sort of cosmic vacuum cleaner supposed by some, it does possess a degree of intensity that is unique.
