If you don't want to...

If you don't want to change don't become a Christian. When our Lord really gets hold of folks, he changes them. Two guys fell asleep on a houseboat tied to a pier. Tied loosely as it turned out because the boat got free and moved downstream quite a distance before the two guys woke up. Upon waking, one said to his buddy, "Hey Joe, we ain't here anymore." Folks who truly surrender to Jesus don't stay where they started.
And that's what God wants. Yes, he accepts us just as we are and that was my homiletical and pastoral proposal nearly 30 years ago but I didn't say the rest of it. God accepts us just as we are but -- he doesn't want us to stay there. In fact, God loves us too much to leave us the way we are.
But we have to cooperate. We must be pliable or the potter can't get it done. To do that, we'll want to keep cadence with Tennyson who said, "O for a man to arise in me I That the man I am may cease to be."
