I wonder about jailers. Today in the media it seems we only hear when they are the victims of violence. In films and TV they are often sadistic, unfeeling, unemotional people. Often, at best, they are just doing a job; at worst, they are the living symbols of power over the powerless (the zoo keepers of human animals).

I wonder if it was different in Philippi those many years ago. Who were the ones who locked up and controlled those whom society rejected?
