I will greatly rejoice...

"I will greatly rejoice in the Lord,
my soul shall exult in my God --
(Isaiah 61:10a)
Who has not, at one time or another, felt the prophet's hymn of praise springing forth from one's soul? The awesome beauty of the season's first snowfall, the sound of spring's first song sparrow, the smile of a nine-year-old from the pew to you -- all moments that have brought the praise of God to my lips.
Too often we are afraid to praise God, lest our praise seem like some primitive attempt to win God's favor. Thankfulness and praise should never be far from our lips. Why? Because God needs all the praise he can get? Of course not! We need to praise him in moments of joy simply to meet our own need to rejoice and exult in a being far greater than ourselves.
