I know a minister who once belonged to another denomination than the one which he presently serves. Previously he had gone to seminary with dreams, and, to be honest, a little conceit. Things were almost too easy for him. He studied at seminary only two years, requirements were waived and he received a three-year Master of Divinity degree. He was the first one in his class to be ordained. He became proud.
He went into his first congregation like a little god, all self-contained and knowing. Mistake after mistake was made. He did not relate well to the people. They rejected his leadership. The bishop did not understand him. His marriage deteriorated. He started drinking.
Finally he was asked to resign after his divorce. He spent three years learning to deal with anger and learning to accept his limitations. Most importantly, he came to rely upon Christ instead of himself. This was a hard lesson.
He was given the opportunity to change denominations. He was also given the chance to minister once more. This he has now done successfully for several years. Like the tree that only needed more manure, and a second chance, he has blossomed. Can you, like Christ, give others a second chance? Your sin is not too great to merit forgiveness if you will only repent and let it go.
