"I know that it is possible for faithful people to differ over the way a certain Bible passage should be interpreted," I once heard a radio preacher say. "I even know it is possible for you to disagree with what I have to say," he went even further. "It is not possible, however, for you to disagree with God and God told me to say this...!"
While I am relatively certain this fellow was absolutely convinced of the truth of what he had to offer, I, personally, had no problem disagreeing with him. The position he went on to state -- as coming as a direct revelation of God -- went against all traditional teachings of the church and all the standards of reason as determined by the community of believers.
It is not enough to think one is correct in one's views. Our standards for believing are determined by reason, tradition and scripture as well as personal conviction.
