The hypocrisy of particular Christians has been well-documented in the history of the church: the excesses and persecutions of the church against its dissenters in the Middle Ages; the rabid slaughter of the American Indians which was supported by most new-world Christians; the acceptance of slavery by both the Northern and Southern churches; the seemingly endless war between the Protestants and Catholics in Northern Ireland; the age-old violence in the Middle East between Arab, Christian, and Jew; and the never-ending skirmishes between denominational groups which proliferate like weeds in an
