Horatio Nelson was an admiral...

Horatio Nelson was an admiral in the British Navy. When he died his body was entombed in St. Paul's Cathedral in London. Some British soldiers served as pall bearers, and took his casket to the tomb in the Cathedral. Someone who saw the service wrote:
"With reverence and with efficiency, they lowered the body of the world's greatest admiral into its tomb. Then, as though responding to an order, those sailors all seized the British flag with which the coffin was covered, and tore it into fragments, and each took his souvenir of the illustrious dead."
