In his novel A Bed By The Window, Scott Peck describes an encounter in a nursing home between Heather, a nurse's aid, and Tim, an elderly patient. Heather has discovered a bottle of wine in Tim's bureau drawer and asks him about it. Tim says he saves it for special occasions. When asked, he confesses that every week or two he and another patient, Marion, have a special meal together: "Just a sip of wine and a little piece of bread ... it's a way of celebrating. Eucharist we call it." Heather is full of questions about this strange practice.
