His grandfather lay in the coffin. He did not move. The child remembered his grandfather picking him up and running with him in his arms through the wheat field.
His grandfather did not smile and the boy remembered all the times they had laughed together watching the cat chasing its tail.
At last he looked up at his mother who was standing beside him, holding his hand, and asked, "What happened to Grandpa? Is he dead?" His mother replied, "Yes. Grandpa died." It was a simple question, "Why did he die?" the boy asked. It was a simple answer the mother returned, "Perhaps Grandpa had finished living in that body."
