In his book, The Other Side, the late James Pike (deceased American Episcopal
bishop of California) describes a number of conversations he purportedly had with his
son, Jim, who had recently died. One of the conversations revolved around what it was
like for Jim to be in heaven. Bishop Pike asked Jim if he recognized people there as
individuals. Jim replied in the affirmative. Bishop Pike pressed further. Do you think of
people as men and women? Is there intimate expression? Again, Jim answered in the
affirmative but described it as very different from sex on earth and went on to talk about
the rich interchange that takes place between people in heaven whereby the whole person
is known.
