To help pass the time...

To help pass the time as I waited in line with my wife at the grocery store, I picked up one of the newspapers that are found in the racks at the checkout counter. As I was looking through the paper, my eye caught the headline, "$100,000 For Anyone Who Can Prove That God Exists." Reading the article, I was told of an individual who was offering $100,000 to anyone who could prove, to his satisfaction, that God exists. It also told of how a number of individuals had tried to collect the money, but, to date, no one had been able to prove to this individual, to his satisfaction, that God exists. Can you prove that God exists? No one can force God to do miracles. No one can make God materialize. All one can do is give his testimony -- to witness to the ways that God has worked in his life. It is up to the hearers to either accept or reject the testimony. But we cannot assume the responsibility for the salvation of others. In our text from the fifth chapter of first John, we are reminded of the work of God in leading people to the saving knowledge of Jesus. God has poured out on all creation his Spirit, and the Spirit bears testimony to Jesus. Besides our witness; besides the witness of the scriptures, God has given us his Spirit. We must do our part, while realizing that God is also at work, bearing testimony to Jesus. -- Frank
