In Greek legend, a nymph...
Illustration
In Greek legend, a nymph named Liriope was ravaged by a river-god, Cephisus. Liniope gave birth to a beautiful boy named Narcissus. By the time he was 16 Narcissus was loved by many others. The nymph Echo had fallen deeply in love with him. Narcissus fled from Echo because he was a cold person incapable of returning love. Echo pined away until there was nothing left of her except her voice. A rejected suitor prayed to Nemesis for vengeance on Narcissus. Nemesis condemned Narcissus to an appropriate punishment.
