Great executives know where they are headed and are usually very decisive and hard-headed people. But occasionally they make a mistake and can actually be persuaded to reverse direction, despite some embarrassment. This happened with the executives of Coca-Cola. They thought they had a great product to replace "Classic" Coke. The new product had scored well in consumer taste tests. But the new Coke did not fare well. Consumers demanded that the original Coke formula which had been around for 100 years be restored. Although it was quite embarrassing to admit such a marketing flop, the executives reinstated "Classic" Coke and in so doing created a market coup.
