Grace Church had been a long established congregation in the middle of the city. As the years passed, the community changed and the historically white neighborhood gradually became more ethnically mixed. There were especially large numbers of Hispanic people coming into the community. Members at Grace were open on the surface, but inside they were more than a little nervous about the changes in their community and the way their congregation was starting to decline.
