The Good Samaritan, accustomed to being treated like a nobody, surprised his Jewish enemies by not treating one of them similarly. No less a figure than Napoleon Bonaparte could have taken a page from this traveler's book. The French Emperor was surveying the battlefield after a cruel defeat for his army. He walked about the field, nudging the bodies of the dead with his boot, muttering, "Small change, small change."
