The Golden Arches are a part of our everyday lives. We stop quickly, eat hastily, and go on our way. Been there, done that, a hundred times perhaps. Same routine, same food, and same service. Only this time it was different. The city was Atlanta. We had stopped at a McDonald's for a quick snack on our way to North Carolina. Our two daughters locked themselves in the rest room and could not get out. The manager was wise enough to ask me to identify the girls before he unlocked the door. I did the best I could do to remember their clothing and describe their looks. But that was all unnecessary; for when the doors opened those two precious girls made a dart for Daddy that cleared any doubts about who I was. The Gospel of Matthew tells about the Father identifying his Son. Peter, James, and John had made the journey up a high mountain with Jesus. And there before them, Jesus was changed in appearance. The Bible says his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as the light. Just then appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus. Have you ever thought about this scene? Peter, James, and John must have been overtaken by it all. So much so that God the Father felt it necessary to identify his Son, as though the three had no clue who the transfigured Jesus was. They could be sure the voice in the cloud was the Father. He was saying, "This is my Son, whom I love, with him I am well pleased. Listen to him." Do you think the Father is saying the same message to us today? Listen to him. What is Jesus saying to you right now?
