God's glorification of Israel draws the nations to the Lord. One of America's most famous lighthouses is known as "Bug Light." Duxbury Pier Light, built in 1871, sits on the north side of the main channel in Plymouth Harbor. There it marks the dangerous shoals off Saquish Head. The unusual coffeepot shaped light is locally known as "Bug Light" or "The Bug." The structure has three levels with living quarters and watch room. The lantern room held a fourth order Fresnel Lens, first illuminated on September 15, 1871. In 1944 the light survived a hurricane where 30-foot waves battered its eastern side, causing substantial damage. The structure was automated in 1964 and the keepers removed. Though slated for deactivation and replacement in 1983, a group of local citizens led a vigorous fight to save the light through "Project Bug Light." Refurbished by the Coast Guard, it remains in service.
